Sports fans are fiercely loyal to their favorite teams and players. They will wear team shirts bearing the names of their idols and dress head to toe in team colors. Throwing a party, whether it is for a fan’s birthday or as a game viewing event for a group of friends is that much more fun when you consider football party decoration ( NFL ) choices currently available.
The best place to start is with the colors. Once the colors are chosen, it is time to start shopping for supplies that fit the chosen color scheme. Determine the colors for the team or teams to be represented. These colors will be used for all the basic decorations and accessories. Look for these colors when purchasing cups, plastic tableware, paper plates, tablecloths, crepe paper streamers, napkins and balloons.
Balloons are festive additions to any celebration. They are affordable and come in dozens of colors. Some will have various designs printed on them. It is up to the host whether to use helium or regular air to blow them up. Filled helium tanks can be found at any local party store. The price will include rental of the equipment needed to fill the balloons. Purchase balloons in the chosen colors and some ribbon in the same colors. Purchase a spool of gold or silver ribbon to add sparkle to the room.
Crepe paper streamers can be strung along the tops of the walls or from the corners to the middle of the room. Another option is to attach streamers at the ceiling and let them hang straight down the walls. They can also be used to drape around the snack table.
Dressing up the food table to look like a football field will add a festive touch. Start with a green tablecloth. Create the yard lines with white duct tape or craft tape. Use number stickers or make some out of contact paper to mark the lines. Place a football on a kicker’s tee and a helmet on the 50-yard line for the centerpiece. A pom-pom or two in the appropriate colors may also be added. Sprinkle some glitter or confetti around the centerpiece.
Serve snacks in dishes and trays shaped like footballs or small plastic helmets placed upside down. Set up a bunch of small red and white striped bags filled with popcorn and peanuts, with or without shells. Inexpensive ice trays will make ice shaped like footballs. These can be made up ahead of time and stored in zippered plastic bags until party day. Float the cubes in bowls of punch or add them to mixed drinks for the adults. For an evening celebration, find some cubes that light up with LEDs for a lively atmosphere. Drinks in cans and bottles can be set out in open ice coolers or tubs full of ice like a tailgate party.
Football player cutouts can be scattered about the room. Pose a couple of them together in open space. Cut the head off of one and use them as props to take novelty photos of the guests posing as players. Blow up some inflatable plastic footballs and beach balls. Place these around the room and encourage guests to toss them around. Purchase or make a football toss target. This can be a large cardboard box with multiple holes of various sizes. When playing indoors, use a foam or plastic inflatable football. An inflatable referee punching bag or pinata gives the guests an appropriate, and entertaining, way to take out their frustrations about bad calls or missed plays.
The windows can be decorated with cling stickers depicting players, referees, goalposts, team logos and footballs. They do not require any adhesive and can be easily removed after the event. These can also be used to decorate a car outside to mark the event location. If possible, tie some balloons and streamers to the mailbox or a bush. Put up a sign or banner that says, “Party Zone”.
String lights are available in a wide variety of styles and colors. Choose from tiny lights in selected colors. Lights that twinkle will provide additional movement to the room and set an upbeat mood to keep the guests engaged and energized. They may be strung along an outdoor deck railing and wrapped around trees and bushes. Float some blinking LED lights in the swimming pool or hot tub for the effect of water bouncing off the water.
Team pennants are popular decorations and make great wall coverings along with a selection of action posters. Garlands can be found made with footballs or helmets. Make up a poster that resembles a scoreboard and decorate it with humorous advertisements. Create some stadium signs with section letters, seat numbers and arrows. Another sign can direct guests to the restroom with the obligatory male and female silhouettes.
Have the guests create the artwork for one wall. Hang up a large piece of poster board, or several, depending on how many guests are invited. Set up a table with felt tip markers in different colors, stickers and other scrapbook embellishments. Invite the guests to add whatever artwork they like and sign their names to it. The board will be an interesting conversation piece and can be used as to decorate a wall at the next celebration.
The guests can add to the environment in other colorful ways. Invite them to wear their team colors. Ladies can come dressed as cheerleaders for even more fun. Hand out eyeblack strips and temporary tattoos with team logos printed on them. Have some inexpensive pom-poms on hand for guests to celebrate with. Glow sticks are fun to wave around and add even more color to an evening event.
There are many items that are officially licensed by the National Football League. These will be clearly marked and feature all the official team logos and exact team colors. Logos, team names and team mascots are emblazoned across everything needed for serving snacks, plus items like mylar balloons, pennants, banners, stickers, static clings for windows and more.
